I’ve been to Ajishin over 200 times (yes, Google actually tracks it), and as someone who’s half Japanese, it’s by far my favorite udon spot. The food is incredibly authentic and really captures the taste of Japan -- but what stands out most is the consistency. You can order the same dish 20 times and it will taste exactly the same every single time. That reliability is outstanding. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu. The Ajishin Udon is the signature dish and definitely the best value, but the other udons are excellent too, all with that subtle, traditional depth in the broth. The mixed curry in the Tetsugaku is chunkier and perfect when you’re craving something hearty. Their 4- and 6-piece nigiri sets are always fresh and an amazing value. The soba is flavorful and super refreshing on a hot day, and their Japanese curry tastes just like what you’d get in Japan (yes, Japanese curry is a thing!). My wife loves the grilled fish, and if you want something light and refreshing, try the cold dry udon (Himuro) β€” it’s fantastic and feels like a Japanese-style salad. We probably order the chirashi the least, mostly because we’re not big chirashi people, but that is solid as well.

10/10 This is some of the best food I have ever had!! If I were the type I would call it life-changing. But I needed a nap once I had finished my meal. I've worked with Japanese companies in the US for a long time and have had a very difficult time finding an authentic Japanese restaurant. The specials are ALWAYS great! The people who work here seem genuinely happy and they are the nicest people. And the prices are great!!

Lovely concept, pull veggies, mushrooms, noodles, and proteins from a buffet to be prepared in a spicy sauce. I went with the level 2 spice level and stir fried a bowl of shaved beef, cabbage, and quail eggs with ramen noodles. It was absolutely delicious 10/10 recommendation.

We left Ann Arbor 12 years ago and re-visited Ajishin today. Did not realized it only had the take-out option. Nonetheless, we still very much enjoyed these authentic Japanese foods. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

The best Udon I've eaten in my life (from Korea, been to Japan 8+ time) It's been here for more than two decades and they haven't changed their flavor not one bit. It's sad that they don't have dine in but I could care less if I can have this udon again. I love this place with all my heart 😍 I live in DC right now but I'm planning to go again soon
